More Austen comics. Emma is a wonderful book, but I've always thought the character herself was kind of a bitch. She's surrounded by irritating people, but she's so arrogant, patronising and self-righteous for ost of the time that it's often hard to feel sorry for her (though that is part of the book's appeal, mind).
Anyhoo, for those who don't know the book, Emma is a rich girl who has to visit a family called Bates out of politeness, but she hates them with a passion because Miss Bates is a woman who talks nonstop about really boring things.
I'm not sure Miss Bates is thick enough to fall for an answering machine, but I think that, in the modern world, Emma would try her best to get away with that.
In the bottom panel, left to right: Isabella and the children, Mr Woodhouse, Emma herself, Harriet, Mr Knightley, Mr Elton, Mrs Elton.
This is so awesome. I am, at this very moment, struggling through a chapter analysis of the Box Hill Picnic, and this is awesome inspiration to keep going and not burn the book.

Emma IS a bitch, but a rather endearing bitch. That takes talent.

The fact that you have not read enough to find a better fictional man than a sparkly fake vampire saddens me.
